There was a time in American automotive history when people adored the station wagon. These cars would litter shopping mall parking lots, drive-in theaters, and drive through food joints across the country, but the sad fact is that these glorious machines were wiped out by the ever-practical SUV. To drill down even further, the performance station wagon is an even rarer species of car nowadays. At least brands such as Audi keep things alive with the A4 Allroad and menacing RS6 Avant.

The majority of car manufacturers however have given up on the station wagon, and that makes us really sad. Especially since BMW launched its Frozen Dark Grey BMW M340i xDrive First Edition, which will unfortunately not be making its way to the US.

Based on the 3 Series wagon, the BMW M340i xDrive First Edition is a hopped-up version with a slew of improvements that make it stand out from the rest of the wagon crowd overseas. According to BMW, only 340 of these exclusive people carriers will be built and all will feature a unique paint job, custom leather interior choices, and a whole bunch of extras. We have to admit that, from what we've seen in the photos, we'd give an arm or a leg to own one. There's nothing like a sporty wagon. Under the hood of this special edition lies a 374 horsepower 3.0-liter turbocharged six-cylinder engine which is more than enough for the application.

Performance upgrades on the BMW M340i xDrive First Edition include BMW M Individual parts such as adaptive M suspension and a set of large M Performance sports brakes, so we can already tell that it will handle and stop on a dime.

So what do you get for your money? The exterior of the first edition gets treated to an uber-cool Frozen Dark Gray metallic paint job that looks out of this world. The exterior also gets a set of special edition badging numbered out of 340, and the car rolls on a set of delicious 19-inch two-tone M double-spoke light-alloy wheels. At the rear, an aggressive M Performance carbon rear diffuser proudly cradles the dual exhaust exits.

The interior also gets some serious attention: the heated seats feature Individual Silverstone / Fjord Blue leather with contrast stitching in Kyalami orange and gain lumbar support, as well as M safety belts. You also get comfort access, a leather-trimmed BMW individual dashboard, and WiFi access. This could possibly be the perfect car.
