2020 Kia Seltos gets spiced up.
Back in June, Kia introduced the Seltos, a new compact SUV slotting between the Soul and the Sportage. At the time, it wasn't clear if the stylish SUV was coming to America, but Kia gave us the answer at the 2019 LA Auto Show with the reveal of the US-spec Seltos.
Debuting alongside the regular model at the show were two aggressive off-road concepts based on the Seltos: the Kia Seltos X-Line Trail Attack Concept and Kia Seltos X-Line Urban Concept. Now, Kolesahas envisioned what a high-performance Kia Seltos could look like.
To make the Seltos look more aggressive, Kolesa has rendered the SUV with a new front bumper featuring larger air intakes, and the headlights have also been separated. Elsewhere, decorative inserts with air ducts have been added to the front fenders, and the rear has been modified with an updated bumper incorporating a diffuser and a pair of twin exhaust pipes.
The chrome moldings, tiger nose grille, side mirrors, and roof also get the black treatment, giving the Seltos a sportier appearance. Wider multi-spoke wheels complete the look. According to Kolsea, the sporty styling changes were inspired by the BMW X5 M.
In the US, the Kia Seltos will be offered in two flavors, including a base model with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine producing 146 horsepower and 132 lb-ft of torque paired with a continuously variable transmission, and a more powerful Turbo model with a 1.6-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine delivering 175 hp and 195 lb-ft of torque.
Both models send power through a six-speed automatic transmission and are available with front- or all-wheel drive. Needless to say, this hypothetical hardcore variant would pack more power to complement its aggressive styling if it entered production. Starting at around $17,000, the Kia Seltos will arrive in US dealers next year.
