If you can't wait for the new Black Series to arrive, this tuner has an alternative for you.
Until the new Black Series arrives, the AMG GT R is the most powerful AMG GT car currently available, thanks to its 4.0-liter, twin-turbo V8 gasoline engine pumping out a very respectable 577 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque. That's more than enough grunt for most people, but this hasn't stopped aftermarket tuners from taking the AMG GT R to the next extreme to ease the wait for the new Black Series. This latest project, however, has to be the most powerful AMG GT R yet.
Dubbed the Posaidon RS 830+, this monster Mercedes-AMG GT R now delivers up to 880 hp – that's over 300 more than the standard AMG GT R. however, the maximum torque has been limited to 738 lb-ft to preserve the sports car's seven-speed dual clutch transmission.
As a result of this massive power boost, Posaidon's AMG GT R will sprint from 0-62 mph in just 2.9 seconds and hit a top speed of 223 mph. For comparison, the regular AMG GT R will do the same sprint in 3.6 seconds and reaches a top speed of 198 mph, so this is a significant performance improvement. Even the new Black Series probably won't have as much power on tap as Posaidon's insane creation.
To achieve this, Posaidon installed new, ball-mounted high-performance turbochargers, as well as forged high-performance pistons, new sports air filters, and a new fuel system. The manifolds, downpipes and sports catalytic converters were also replaced, and the engine software was adapted to the new hardware.
Unlike other tuning jobs that get eye-catching body kits to complement the performance upgrades, Posaidon has left the exterior completely stock. It's a refreshingly restrained approach. Not that we're complaining, since the AMG GT R is already a very aggressive-looking sports car. Owners of the less powerful AMG GT, GT S and GT C models also aren't left out, as Posaidons's RS 830+ upgrade is available for all AMG GT models.
