But we're also able to get the inside track of what future cars will be named, and as a result, we can now tell you what Hyundai or Kia's next car will be called. Are you ready? Prepare to welcome the Hyundai/Kia Pleos.

Before we go any further, we should tell you that all we know for certain at this point is that the trademark has been filed with respect to various applications, including vehicles, electric locks for vehicles, design of cars, transportation logistics, and advertising. It has also been filed under the ownership of both Kia Corporation and Hyundai Motor Group, so it could be used for either brand. The application was made with the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) and was only filed today. The trademark application has not yet been approved and is being examined, but we can't find any prior use of the name - at least not in any automotive application. Nevertheless, we think we can discern some things from the structure of the name, rather than the name itself. Bear in mind, however, that this is all conjecture at this point.

When we saw the Kia EV6 hit the market, it heralded a change in the naming strategy that the brand employs. Rather than using an emotive name, like Soul, the car was given a name that could just as easily have been bestowed upon a printer or a graphics card. But it also made it clear that the car is powered by electricity. The same is true of the EV9 SUV of the future. With this new name 'Pleos' not following that convention, we can only speculate that the new car will, at most, be a hybrid. Where it will slot into the product lineup is yet to be determined, as are the markets in which it will be sold, but keep a close eye on CarBuzz for more developments as they become known.
