Britain has Silverstone. Belgium has Spa-Francorchamps. Japan has Fuji. And Korea? Korea has Inje Speedium (among others). We'll get to why that's important in a moment, but for now, let's focus on Korea's premier luxury brand, Genesis. The automaker has long teased the idea of introducing a high-performance luxury coupe and has shown us some spectacular potential designs in creations like the Genesis X Concept and its predecessor, the Essentia Concept. Sadly, there has been little to suggest that these concepts are being seriously considered for mainstream production, or at least that was the case until late last month when a new electric coupe was teased for the first time. Now, thanks to trademark filings uncovered at the Swiss Federal Institute of Intellectual Property and British intellectual property office, CarBuzz can exclusively report that this new car will have a motorsport-inspired name.

The trademark was applied for yesterday and pertains to the name 'Genesis X Speedium Coupe.' As you have no doubt gleaned by now, this is in reference to one of Korea's five major racetracks. With Genesis choosing to apply the name of a track to a new coupe, it must surely have some performance bias, while the decision to include an X in the name suggests a link to the aforementioned X Concept. Moreover, the teaser mentioned above reveals similar styling flourishes to those of the X Concept. Thus, it seems only logical to assume that the trademark and the teaser are for the same vehicle.

Last year, we found proof that Hyundai's luxury arm wanted to build a Genesis G70 coupe, and we think such a creation would look spectacular. But avoiding electrification is not how Genesis will thrive in the future, which is why it teased eight new EVs last year. Among these was that coupe that appeared to be heavily based on the X Concept.

Basically, we're saying that Genesis has been working on a new electric coupe for some time and that, with new trademarks being filed across the globe, the marketing campaign must be about to kick off. We'll put 50 bucks on a sexy new performance coupe with the Speedium name being revealed before the end of the year.
