The current generation of the Audi A6 is due for its mid-cycle update but thanks to a selection of images released by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of China, we have been given an early look at what to expect. The model shown here is an A6 L 45 TFSI with the S-Line package attached.

Changes throughout are rather subtle with the imminent update. At the front, the premium sedan, in long-wheelbase guise, shows a slightly redesigned pair of matrix LED headlights that are accentuated by a sleeker DRL cluster. The single-frame trapezoidal grille has also been detailed with a unique 3D-effect pattern. The front is rounded off with a series of satin silver trimmings around the grille and lower and side air intakes.

The rear sees fewer changes with the LED taillight cluster maintaining its original design. The two units also maintain the connecting chrome strip that runs along the trunk line. The bumper does get a slight rejig with the faux-exhaust template being replaced with a dynamic satin silver cue split into three pieces. When viewed from the side, it looks unchanged from the current offering.

A collection of smaller images joins this release and shows off what looks to be a lower-trimmed model with the current single frame grille paired with the new headlamps and a more dynamic pair of side-intake trimmings applied to the bumper. At the rear of this unit, a less dramatic satin silver trim is fitted to the lower part of the bumper. Lastly, you'll also notice that 11 alloy wheel options have been included in the selection.

Spy images of the refreshed A6 first broke cover late last year and displayed these very same cues under a camouflaged wrap. Unfortunately, both sets of images still do not give us a clear indication of what we can expect in terms of the interior but it will likely inherit the 10.1-inch touchscreen and 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster with the firm's latest software.

Engine options are also expected to remain the same for the A6 with the 45 TFSI retaining its turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine that produces 245 horsepower and 272 lb-ft of torque. The 55 TFSI option should also carry over with 335 hp and 369 lb-ft produced by a turbocharged 3.0-liter V6. Both models are also highly likely to retain the Quattro system as standard.
