Earlier this year, Honda revealed the new HR-V for Europe and Japan with a cleaner, coupe-style design, and a new hybrid powertrain. A separate HR-V is being designed specifically for the US market, but it still doesn't have a launch date.

In the meantime, Honda has presented another new version of the HR-V, but this variant will only be sold in China. Europe's version of the new HR-V is only available with a hybrid powertrain combining two electric motors and a 1.5-liter i-VTEC gasoline engine generating 129 horsepower and 186 lb-ft of torque.

China's new HR-V, on the other hand, is fully electric, marking the first time the HR-V has been sold as an EV.

Ahead of its reveal, photos posted by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, as part of the homologation process, show that the design of the new electric Honda HR-V is inspired by the SUV e:prototype revealed at Auto Shanghai 2021. From the badging on the tailgate, it appears that China's electric Honda HR-V will be called the e:NS1.

Visually, the electric HR-V can be easily distinguished from its standard sibling thanks to a closed-off grille, a charging port located behind the front Honda logo, new bumpers, and clear taillights. It also rides on 18-inch wheels.

According to the documents, the Honda e:NS1 is powered by an electric motor producing 201 horsepower, enabling the electric crossover to hit a top speed of 93 mph. It packs a 68.8-kWh battery but no range details are available yet.

Considering it weighs 4,647 pounds, the range could be disappointing. More details will be revealed soon including the range, but we aren't expecting the electric Honda HR-V to come to the US. America's new HR-V, on the other hand, is expected to be offered with a choice of hybrid and plug-in hybrid options and sport a unique design.
