With the rise of autonomous technology and digital companies such as Google and Apple creating car tech, the automotive and computing industries are starting to overlap. Just like cars, video games consoles feature iconic designs that represent different eras - the cumbersome design of the NES is straight out of the 1980s, for example. Jennings Ford Direct dealership in the United Kingdom has now merged the two industries, envisioning how some of the most iconic games consoles would look if they were designed as cars.

Eight consoles are covered spanning different eras, from the retro Atari 2600 and Sega Genesis, to more contemporary consoles such as the Playstation 2, Xbox 360, and the new Nintendo Switch. It's fair to say some games consoles make more attractive cars than others, but the effort that has gone into retaining the essence of each console in car-form is commendable. The Atari 2600 car features faux-wood panelling and a chunky black chassis, and comes complete with an on switch to start it up, while the chunky NES-inspired van is befitting of Nintendo's family friendly image with room for everyone. Even the Sega Genesis looks like a futuristic autonomous car concept.

The Playstation 2 was a powerhouse that dominated the market when it was released, and this has been translated into its car equivalent with its aggressive lines, while the Nintendo Gamecube is depicted as a practical car that's easy to park since the console was compact and easy to transport. The Game Boy Color handheld was renowned for its battery life and is represented as a reliable runaround car. Naturally, the Xbox 360 is a driverless car since the console introduced new technology at the time with the advent of online gaming, and the versatile Nintendo Switch has been converted into a sporty two-seater that's ready for anything. Which is your favourite games console concept car?
