This Is When The 2023 Chevrolet Camaro Will Enter Production

Industry News / Comments

But what happens after 2023?

Recent reports suggest the sixth-generation Camaro will be going into its eighth production year as a 2023 model, and now we hear on the grapevine that production of the 2023 Chevy Camaro will start on 6 June 2022 at the Lansing Grand River Plant in Michigan. After that, Camaro production will likely wind down, as there are no plans for a seventh-generation Camaro. The Camaro's execution date has still yet to be officially confirmed. We're guessing that, for as long as it makes economic sense for the model to stick around, GM will keep on offering it.

We reported earlier this month that Chevrolet might bolt the 6.2-liter LT2 V8 under the hood of the Camaro as a fitting goodbye. Unfortunately, there are more reasons why Chevrolet won't do this, the least of which is the current demand for the Corvette Stingray. It's the only model currently using the LT2 engine, and we can't see Chevrolet taking engines away from a car in such high demand.

That's not to say it won't go out with a bang. There are multiple routes Chevrolet can take to send the Camaro to that great scrapheap in the sky in style. One rumor suggests a Heritage Edition, while another concerns the Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing and its 660-horsepower supercharged V8.

Considering the aging Camaro isn't selling very well at the moment, it's doubtful it will receive any of GM's coveted development money.

The most likely scenario is the current Camaro soldiering on until 2026 when it reaches a decade of production. A special edition is a must if only to satisfy the fans.

What comes after that? Well, the Camaro badge carries a lot of clout, and we know GM already has designed three electric motors. Combined, they form the Ultium Drive Package, which will feature on the all-new EV Hummer. And there's the first clue.

GM will hold on to its famous names but will electrify them. If there is a next-generation Camaro, it will be electric. Is that necessarily a bad thing, considering how easily you can get 1,000 hp from electric motors?
