And how much it will cost.
Acura's Type S performance vehicles have been sorely missed from the automaker's lineup. Thankfully, Acura has been having something of a rebirth in recent times, and the new TLX is the first modern vehicle to get the Type S treatment. It will arrive in showrooms in late May with an all-new 3.0-liter Type S Turbo V6 engine combined with the TLX's driver-focused chassis and suspension setup. The new engine will come out of the gate with 355 horsepower and 354 lb-ft of torque, making it the most powerful Type S yet.
As well as the all-new engine, Acura is keen to highlight the TLX's double-wishbone front suspension and Type S-exclusive Sport+ driving mode. The TLX Type S also comes with a set of Brembo brakes and will be the first performance model to use Acura's Super Handling All-Wheel Drive (SH-AWD) system. We can't wait to see how the extra power and tuning works with the true torque vectoring system.
As well as a substantial performance upgrade, the performance version of the Acura TLX will carry Type S styling as well as increased airflow from the open-surface diamond pentagon grille and NSX-inspired lightweight wheels.
Six exterior color options and three interior options will be available. These include the all-new Tiger Eye Pearl paint and Orchid leather interior, both of which are exclusive to the Type S. The seats are trimmed in Ultrasuede and come with adjustable side bolstering and Type S embossing on the headrests.
The TLX Type S will also include features from the TLX Advance Package, including the excellent 17-speaker ELS Studio 3D sound system. Acura hasn't announced an exact price yet, but tells us it "will carry a Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) starting in the low $50,000s."
