The Chevrolet Silverado EV might be a little late to the electric pickup truck party with the Rivian R1T making deliveries now and the Ford Lightning coming next year. But we now have an official timing for production thanks to Doug Parks, GM's executive vice president for global product development, purchasing and supply chain. He made the remarks at Deutsche Bank's AutoTech Conference taking place Thursday and Friday.

"You'll see in '22, of course, the Hummer SUV will launch," said Parks. "The Cadillac Lyriq will launch. And then very soon after that, you'll start to see the Silverado E, the Sierra and then there's a couple of other vehicles we're going to talk about at the CES show that we'll also launch in '23." When pressed by the interviewer he added, "That is going to be early 2023."

We'll get our first look at the Ultium-powered pickup this January at CES, where CEO Mary Barra will give the keynote address. Parks also spoke on the rest of the market, specifically calling out their range.

"And by the way, we believe EV life starts at 300 miles of range, not 200 or 250. We've been there. We've done that. I think when you really start to get mass adoption, people interested, it's got to start with the three. So that's why Ultium packs will deliver 300, 350, 400, 450 plus miles of range, not 200 or 250, starting at 300," said Parks.

"And in terms of the last question, I'm not going to say anything negative about our competitors, but I will focus on - when you see the Silverado and Sierra, and when you see that $30,000 Equinox - when you see them at 300 and 350 and 400 miles of range, that's the right discussion, and that's the right platform and we'll have a significant number of vehicles that I think will really capture the hearts and minds of our customers," he said.

We'll be very interested in the weight of this pickup when it lands, especially considering the whale-like proportions of the Hummer EV and its long-range battery. But the EV era needs its pickup truck battles, just like the ICE era did. They'll be going toe-to-toe in electric towing in no time.
