VW's latest teaser video showcases the electric SUV's fast-charging capability.
With the world debut of the Volkswagen ID.4 fast approaching, VW's teaser campaign for its new Tesla Model Y rival is gaining traction. This latest teaser video released by the German automaker showcases the ID.4's fast charging capabilities.
No details about the charging SUV's charging performance have been released yet, but we don't have to wait long to find out because VW has confirmed the ID.4 will be revealed on September 23, 11 am EST before the order books open on September 24. In Europe, the ID.4 is expected to offer a range of 310 miles based on Europe's WLTP cycle, but the US EPA range will likely be lower.
While the model shown in the video is a pre-production prototype, the electric SUV is lightly camouflaged, leaving little to the imagination. Instead, Volkswagen has applied discrete body-color camouflage to the corners of the headlights and sections of the front fascia, but we get a clear look at the stylish exterior.
The interior isn't shown in the video, but a recent teaser confirmed the spacious cabin will look a lot like the ID.3 hatchback's, incorporating a digital driver display and a central touchscreen for the infotainment system. With the rear seats upright, the trunk will offer a cargo capacity of 19.17 cubic feet.
The European ID.4 will use a single electric motor producing 201 horsepower and enabling a top speed of 99 mph, but we're expecting the US version to pack more power. Rear-wheel-drive will only be available initially, but an AWD version will join the line up at a later date.
This variant should produce around 300 horsepower from a dual-motor setup like the ID. Crozz concept. Since the ID.3 was only sold in Europe, the ID.4 will be VW's first electric ID. model available in America. More details will be revealed when the Volkswagen ID.4 debuts next week.
