The Cadillac Lyriq looks absolutely out of this world and it has the technology to match, including Super Cruise. It's also surprisingly affordable, and with so much style, tech, and luxury, you can be sure that the moment order books open for the new electric SUV, they'll be filled in a matter of moments. If you've been patiently holding off on a new car purchase so that you can get your name down for one of these spectacular machines, you'll be pleased to know that the wait for orders to open is almost over. Cadillac has announced that orders will open on September 18.

The exciting news was announced in General Motors' second-quarter earnings call, but no other information pertaining to the Lyriq SUV was provided. We assume that this news means that Cadillac has accounted for the global semiconductor chip shortage and has planned its production accordingly following the Escalade's loss of the Electronic Steering Column Lock feature last month that was caused by the global shortage. A couple of weeks back, we learned that the government is helping to alleviate pressure on automakers, suppliers, and manufacturers by brokering talks between all three parties, and this is helping get supply back on track.

Production of the Lyriq will reportedly begin early next year, assuming that no more delays are encountered. We're looking forward to our first drive very much, when we will test standard features like a 33-inch curved LED display, a 19-speaker AKG Studio audio system with headrest speakers, and an impressive 60.8 cubic foot cargo area. We also look forward to evaluating the claims of a 300-mile range on a full charge and determining if 340 horsepower and 325 lb-ft of torque are enough for a 5,610-pound monster.

When orders open next month, buyers will pay at least $59,990 before any options or incentives.
