This Is When You Can Order Your Fisker Ocean Launch Edition

Selected customers will soon be able to order a limited-edition Ocean One.

Fisker has announced it will soon start taking orders for the Ocean, an electric SUV that hopes to battle the Tesla Model Y with an impressive $37,499 starting price. A post shared to the company's Twitter account noted that early reservation holders will soon receive an invitation to place an order for the Ocean One Launch Edition, a special model limited to 5,000 examples.

According to Fisker, the order books are bursting at the seams; reservations passed the 30,000 mark in February of this year. Those at the front of the line are in luck, as the Ocean One will receive features not shared with other models. So, what do you get on the Launch Edition? Well, the debut model gains a bespoke digital display that greets the driver upon entering the vehicle. A digital signature and number sequence authenticates the Ocean's "place among the first 5,000 electric vehicles made by Fisker Inc."

The steering wheel also receives a unique touch. The Launch Edition will be the only variant to wear the Ocean One logo on its tiller. More importantly, the first 5,000 customers will be treated to a unique "MaliBlu" interior theme that is not only sustainable but promises to be luxurious too. Indigo-colored EcoSuede is paired with teal accents and platinum dashboard trim. The carpeting and various interior trim pieces are made from recycled plastic.

The exterior styling doesn't differ much from the pre-production model we've seen, but the debut model does gain a pair of unique wheel designs. Customers will be able to choose between the 22-inch F3 Slipstream and F5 Airglider, both available in a black or silver finish.

All these distinctive touches will cost you, though. According to Fisker's UK configurator, the Ocean One Launch Edition will set buyers back £59,900 (approximately $72,500). That's more than the American price ($68,999) for the One. The Ocean Extreme is equally expensive, but there are two cheaper models to choose from.

The Ocean Ultra doesn't have the (Fisker estimated) 391-mile range of the One and Extreme, but it comes close at 379 miles. Priced from £48,900 (around $59,250), the more affordably priced Ultra comes equipped with plenty of standard driver assists, but the revolving 17.1-inch touchscreen remains the reserve of the posher models.

The Ocean Sport is the cheapest of the bunch by a long way. It may not be as lavishly equipped as its plusher siblings but the base model still has a decent 273-mile range and most of the safety assists, which include blind-spot monitoring and lane-keep assist. Most impressive, however, is the price. The entry-level Sport comes in at £34,990 (approximately $42,400).

We anticipate local pricing to be slightly lower than what we've seen in the UK. Production should kick off soon if Fisker wants to start delivering vehicles by November. Elsewhere, the brand is working on an affordable Mini Cooper Electric rival, called the Pear. With a starting price of $29,900, it certainly looks promising.
