It's been redesigned many times over the decades and yet the Toyota Land Cruiser has remained a true, bona-fide SUV. It hasn't been turned into a unibody crossover and hopefully never will be. The currently on sale 2016 Land Cruiser has come a long way since Toyota first launched the nameplate way back in 1955. Although it's been a few years since the last full-on redesign, this Land Cruiser is aging very well. Power comes courtesy of Toyota's excellent 5.7-liter V8 with a total of 381 hp and 401 lb-ft of torque.

Along with its solid off-road capabilities, the Land Cruiser can also tow up to 8,100 pounds, which is literally a speed boat. Will all Land Cruiser owners go off-road? No, but they will more than likely have something big to tow. Remember: the Land Cruiser was originally a very Spartan off-roader on par with old Jeeps.

Today is a different story. This is an all-out luxury SUV with a hefty price tag. We're talking over $80,000. However, compared to its corporate twin, the Lexus LX570, it's the better deal. The LX570 costs around $90,000! For those looking for a large SUV with much less bling than the Cadillac Escalade, simpler looks than what's found with the Infiniti QX80 and without that funky Darth Vader-like front-end styling of the LX570, then the one and only Land Cruiser is for you, assuming you've got the dough. Check out our latest unboxing review video of the 2016 Toyota Land Cruiser to see why it's still, in our opinion, one of the best SUVs ever.
