This Lexus LFA Nurburgring Edition Is One Of Only 50 Ever Built

The Lexus LFA is a rare sight, but the track-focused Nurburgring Edition is even less common.

The Lexus LFA is one of the most legendary supercars to launch in the last decade. When it arrived in 2012, it came as a complete surprise from Lexus, a company better known for making luxury coupes and sedans. The Japanese supercar doesn’t appear at big-name auctions very often, but when it does you can guarantee it will sell for a lot more than its original $375,000 since only 500 were built. A 2012 example in Sunset Orange is heading to the upcoming Barrett Jackson Palm Beach auction this week, but this isn’t a standard LFA.

What you’re looking at here is the Lexus LFA Nurburgring Edition, one of only 50 in the world. As the name implies, this LFA is more track-focused than the standard model. At one point, it was the fastest production car to ever lap the Green Hell. While the standard LFA produces 552 horsepower from its sublime-sounding 4.8-liter V10, the Nurburgring Edition’s output has increased to 562 hp. Lexus also added several carbon fiber components such as a larger front spoiler and a fixed rear wing help improve downforce. Like the regular LFA, 0-62 mph takes 3.6 seconds before the supercar tops out at 202 mph.

Sport-tuned suspension, grippier tires, and special multi-spoke wheels further distinguish the Nurburgring Edition. This example going under the hammer has clocked up 1,603 miles and was only driven by dealership personnel. While the standard car would set you back $375,000, the Nurburgring Edition commanded an extra $70,000 premium. No estimates have been provided, but there’s no reserve. The LFA has been out of production since 2012, so Lexus could really do with a new halo supercar in its current line-up. Speaking to us at this year’s Detroit Auto Show, Lexus's Group Vice President and General Manager hinted that an LFA successor is a very real possibility in the future.
