The original DeLorean wouldn't do this well on the dyno.
The DeLorean Motor Company will always be known as a huge automotive failure. The DMC-12 gained popularity as the time traveling car in "Back To The Future," but the car itself was less than fast. Featuring a Peugeot V6 with only 130 horsepower, the car could get from 0-60 mph in 8.8 seconds in manual guise or a yawn-inducing 10.5 seconds with an automatic transmission. Neither of these numbers made the car truly interesting despite the crazy gullwing doors and popular movie appearance.
Many people dream of owning a DeLorean and putting in a new engine that could give it performance worthy of its crazy looks. That is exactly what DeLorean owner Nicholas Roedl did in this video.
This particular Delorean features a 5.7-liter LS1 V8 where the former 2.8-liter V6 used to sit. After installing Lingenfelter heads and a Lingenfelter camshaft, this Delorean now produces 425 horsepower at the rear wheels and makes a pretty awesome noise to boot. This DeLorean shows what the original car was missing, a good ol' fashion V8 making tons of power!
