It has the interior of a royal palace.
The Mercedes-Benz GLE is a premium midsize SUV that offers luxury and refinement in a handsome package, but as we know in the car world, there's always room for improvement. That's where Hofele Design comes in. The company, based in Stuttgart, Germany is a contractual partner for Mercedes-Benz and has been in operation for over 35 years. Having modified cars such as the E-Class Cabriolet, G-Wagon, EQC, the tuning house has now turned its focus on the GLE.
The car pictured is based on the GLE 450, but parts are available for the 300d right up to the GLS 63. Hofele describes its GLE as being part of its "Ultimate" range of vehicles which includes a two-tone finish, not unlike that of the S-Class based Mercedes-Maybach S. We must say that this Tiffany Gold over Obsidian Black paint job immediately screams class. The paint job is complemented by a set of signature Hofele 23-inch 'Turbine' forged alloy wheels.
The exterior also benefits from a unique front grille, front bumper with chrome styling accents, as well as gloss black finish to the rear valance with matching black twin exhaust finishers. Hofele has gone all out when it comes to the interior of this GLE. One of the first things you'll notice is that the original rear bench seat has been replaced by two individual seats separated by a center console.
All seats have been reupholstered in the finest Napa leathers and Alcantara, and every conceivable bit of interior trim has been touched, even smaller plastic bits on the sides of the seats. The perforation and stitched design is unique to Hofele, and are complemented by light gold piping.
In the back, the luggage compartment is finished with a high gloss back wood floor and aluminum trim. We adore the interior of this car, especially the small details that go into making this already luxurious interior that much more special. The rear head pillows look ready for first-class travel, and the rear-mounted displays cater to the VIPs that will most likely end up owning these special SUVs.
The engine in this GLE is the most potent in the range when you exclude the AMG variants. You get a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six with a mild-hybrid system, and a zero to sixty sprint time of only 5.5 seconds. The Hofele GLE perfectly combines luxury and practicality, and its all the better for it.
