This Polestar 2 Problem Is Good News For Tesla

Electric Vehicles / Comments

This is not good publicity for Polestar.

The Polestar 2 is one of the most anticipated new electric cars of the year. It's even nominated for the 2021 North American Car of the Year Awards, which is an impressive feat considering this is Polestar's first fully electric car and second standalone model. Customer deliveries for the Polestar 2 are now underway in Europe, but unfortunately some early adopters have discovered the electric sedan has some serious teething troubles.

According to Sweden's CarUp, Polestar 2 owners in Sweden, Norway, the Netherlands and France are reporting a fault with the powertrain that prevents the electric sedan from working, forcing them to get their EVs towed to the nearest garage.

One owner in Sweden has had trouble with the electric sedan ever since they owned it, claiming that it broke down the day after it was delivered and has been at a repair shop for over 30 days. This isn't just an isolated incident either, as more than 30 owners have reported experiencing a problem with the car's 12-volt battery. Some owners received a warning before the car stopped working completely, but others didn't get any warning. According to the publication, Polestar acted promptly by giving affected owners a loan car while the problem is investigated.

A Polestar spokesperson told the publication that not every Polestar 2 delivered is affected by this issue, so it remains to be seen if a recall will be issued. Let's hope this serious issue can be ironed out before US customer deliveries begin.

Teething problems with new models are not unheard of, but it's generating good publicity for Polestar, especially for such an important model launch. Once the bugs have been ironed out, the Polestar 2 will be a worthy rival to the Tesla Model 3. It looks stylish, has a high-tech interior with a new Android-powered infotainment system, and boasts impressive performance thanks to its dual-motor setup producing a combined 402 horsepower and 487 lb-ft of torque. A 78 kWh battery pack also provides an estimated driving range of 310 miles.
