The Pontiac Fiero has been the go-to car for fake Ferrari builders for years. Its mid-engine layout is a huge plus. While some Fiero-based Ferrari replicas aren't half bad, others are, well, varied. Some are beyond terrible. Others can be described as unique and, perhaps, a bit wacky. This is one of them. Set to go up for auction at Barrett-Jackson's Scottsdale, Arizona auction even this January is this 1984 Pontiac Fiero wearing Ferrari styling and badges and built on an old Chevrolet Blazer chassis.

Obviously, the Fiero is no Ferrari Testarossa, which in this case it clearly intends to copy. Those aren't real side air intakes but rather just decals. The builder also stuck on some Prancing Horse badges though they're not fooling anyone. And then there's the chassis. Unlike today's Chevy Blazer, original Blazers sported a body on frame chassis intended for serious off-roading.

The builder figured a Testarossa-decorated Fiero body bolted to a Blazer chassis would be a cool idea. In addition, the finished product features a three-foot or so lift, all-terrain RTV tires, and a huge protection bar up front. There's also been a significant change in the engine department.

Instead of the Fiero's original 2.8-liter V6, there's now a 350 cubic inch V8 paired to a three-speed TH400 automatic transmission that now sends power to all four wheels. That's right, it's a 4x4 fake Ferrari.

And who could miss those big pipes along the sides that extend to the mufflers? All in all, this '84 Fiero is its own interesting thing and is definitely not for everyone. So, how much? The auction listing states there is no reserve. But in all honesty, we can't see this thing going for serious money.

Yes, it's certainly interesting and the build quality must be good in order for Barrett-Jackson to accept it, but it'll take a very specific type of buyer for this one. Given that it's not even a collector's car, the next owner should not expect it to increase in value over the years.
