Automakers are trying to cash in on this whole NFT trend (Non-Fungible Tokens) in any way possible, with some more clever than others. The Alfa Romeo Tonale, for example, will keep its sales and service history via NFT while the last-ever Lamborghini Aventador gets a unique NFT that will let the owner preview future models. General Motors is the latest company to jump into the NFT game with the new 2023 Chevrolet Corvette Z06.

Chevy just announced a Z06-inspired NFT artwork created by artist XSULLO. This digital artwork will be auctioned off via SuperRare, an NFT auction site, with the winning bidder getting the right to say they "own the color." What exactly does that mean? Well, the NFT comes with a life-size Corvette Z06 painted in a one-of-one Minted Green (pictured below).

This luscious color is named after the process to create an NFT, minting. Chevy says it will not paint another production 2023 Corvette Z06 in this green, meaning the winner of this auction will have the only one in the world (unless Chevy decides to add the color for 2024). In addition to the digital NFT certificate, this Z06 will carry a special RFN option code that no other car will have. Chevy even says the car's VIN is inspired by binary code. Aside from the unique color, this particular Z06 comes equipped with the Z07 performance package, carbon fiber wheels, and a commemorative plaque.

"Corvette is a halo at Chevrolet. It's the pinnacle of performance and staying cutting-edge means getting into new territories as a bit of a pioneer," said Steve Majoros, vice president, Chevrolet Marketing. "This is our company's first NFT. We see 'Own the Color' as an important stepping stone for Chevrolet into future digital initiatives for our customers."

"I've been wanting to combine my digital art with the physical world, so it's been a great opportunity to work with Chevrolet to bridge these two worlds," said artist XSULLO. "The Corvette Z06 is an ambitious car that I totally vibe with. I'm drawn to how technology can make us feel, and I can tell the designers of Corvette Z06 draw from similar inspiration."

The auction will be live from June 20-24, though interested buyers can only place bids in Ethereum, a digital currency. All proceeds will go to DonorsChoose, a charity benefiting STEM teachers and students.
