This Year's Nismo Festival Was One Big Nissan GT-R Celebration

Nismo

Some of the greatest GT-Rs of all time came to Fuji Speedway.

It’s been an annual event for the past 20 years, but this year’s Nismo Festival showcased the Nissan GT-R more so than before. Of course, Nismo was also a featured player at the Fuji Speedway Circuit in Japan where more than 28,000 fans gathered last week to partake in the festivities. There was the traditional Nismo Grand Prix race that included entries from the Super GT, Super Taikyu and Europe’s Blancpain GT Series, as well as something unique for this year: a Heritage Run. What was it, exactly?

A showcase featuring 16 famous GT-Rs dating back to the skyline HT 2000 GT-R from the 1960s. Other cars on hand were the Group A-spec GT-RS, the 1995 and 1996 Le Mans GT-R racers, and Nissan’s 2011 FIA GTI World Championship winning GT-R. Another track event held was the Z-Challenge exhibition.

Even road cars were allowed to take part and proceeded to the F1 circuit with more than 150 Nismo cars in total. "We're very thankful for the support of the fans throughout the season," said Nismo president Takao Katagiri. "Although we missed the Super GT championship by a mere two points, the victory at the final round gave us a clear direction of what should be done over the winter for the next season. As a new challenge, Nissan and Nismo will compete in the all-electric FIA Formula E championship which starts in December next year, and we will look forward to seeing you all again to celebrate our victories."
