A one-off Ford Mustang GT has been created to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the famous Thunderbirds aviation team.
Just in time to help celebrate America’s birthday later this week as well as the 60th anniversary of the famous aviation team, Ford has released images and details of its one-off US Air Force Thunderbirds Edition Mustang. Based on the 2014 Mustang GT, the engineering and design teams at Ford created this exclusive car which boasts unique body treatments throughout. It will be donated by Ford to be sold at the Gathering of the Eagles charity event this August 1.
All proceeds will go towards the EAA Young Eagles Program, which gives free introductory flights to kids in the hope of inspiring them to become pilots. The customized Mustang’s exterior has a paint job to match that of the famous F-16 Thunderbird along with modifications that include a body kit, handcrafted and painted "belly pan" and 22" custom wheels. The interior includes a modified navigation screen, instrument cluster, Recaro seats with embroidered Thunderbirds elements, as well as unique sill plates and puddle lamps. Performance is upped thanks to a Ford Racing supercharger, suspension handling pack and Brembo brakes.
