The new series of Top Gear has been a triumphant return to form, and dare we say it, a more balanced show than The Grand Tour, with the right amount of informative car content for gearheads and lighthearted entertainment for casual viewers. Sadly, after seven solid episodes the series is coming to a close this week, so we'll have to resort to YouTube channels to fill the void of car shows until the end of the year when The Grand Tour and Top Gear USA returns.

A trailer for the Top Gear season finale has just dropped, and it looks like it will get the balance just right once again. For gearheads, driving god Chris Harris will be thrashing the four-cylinder Porsche 718 Cayman around the test track, notable for being the first four-cylinder Porsche since the 958 alongside its four-cylinder 718 Boxster sibling. Named after Porsche's legendary 718 race cars, it may have been downgraded from a flat-six cylinder engine to a flat-four, but its 2.0-liter engine gets a power boost up to 300 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque to make up for it. We can't wait to see what Harris makes of it. If you prefer the lighthearted comedic films, Matt LeBlanc will drive the Avtoros Sharman.

If you've never heard of it, it's a ridiculous Russian SUV with eight wheels. It may only have a 3-litre four-cylinder turbodiesel from a van that makes 176-horsepower and an earth shattering top speed of 50 mph, but it looks like so much fun to drive you probably won't care. The trailer also shows LeBlanc encountering a group of nudists in the film – his startled reactions look genuinely hilarious.

And fear not Rory Reid fans, Top Gear's most underused presenter will star in a segment where he turns a Ssangyong Rodius, one of the ugliest cars in the world, into a luxury yacht along with Harris and LeBlanc. That sounds like a vintage Top Gear DIY challenge to us, and could be one of the silliest segments of the season. Elsewhere, Jamiroquai frontman Jay Kay is the star in a reasonably priced car, who you may remember consistently set some of the fastest times in past seasons. Hopefully this will be a fitting finale to a solid series.
