Top Tuned BMW M5s

Offbeat

Tuners near and far love nothing more than modifying BMW’s most potent sedan. Here’s a selection of five of the best.

Back in August, the first F10 M5 was delivered to the USA, and while its 560-horsepower 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 and aggressive styling will do more than satisfy the majority of owners, there'll always be some that demand a little bit more grunt and some unique body components. That's where tuners come in, and for your viewing pleasure we have collated five of the best M5 aftermarket packages we've seen over the past few months that have enhanced both the slick sedan's styling and performance.

When Romeo Ferraris tuned the M5 it offered a pair of engine tuning packages for the 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8. The more powerful of the two packs an extra 97 horsepower and 81 lb-ft of torque for final figures of 657 hp and 583 lb-ft, while the less potent ECU tune releases an additional 75 hp and 65 lb-ft of torque. The difference between the two comes down to the titanium exhaust system, including a downpipe with pre-catalyst, a catalyst metal center with 200 cells and titanium tips.

Kelleners Sport loves tuning BMWs and for the M5 it created a lightweight carbon fiber bodykit made up of a new front lip spoiler, extended side skirts, mirror caps, and rear diffuser and spoiler on the trunk. Completing the new look, Kellener added a set of its very own lightweight multi-spoke wheels. The matte grey body wrap certainly doesn't hurt the M5's looks, either.

Miami-based tuning outfit K3 Projekt's M5 project was based on the E60. The wheel manufacturer collaborated with Soho Imports who helped with the suspension work, performance enhancements, exterior body kit and custom carbon-fiber trim. K3 Projekt went with 20-inch two-tone Projekt 1 alloys with a stainless steel and titanium silver finish. These already light wheels were further trimmed down via the use of spoke and back pad pockets.

Preparing for SEMA 2012, IND created a bespoke kit for the M5 including a carbon-fiber roof and a carbon Kevlar trunk by Challenge Engineering. A ten-hour paint job included the application of Lamborghini Balloon White and exterior graphics penned by Jon Sibal. Fall Line designed and installed a bespoke "street friendly" roll bar, while the bodykit is from 3D Design, consisting of a front lip spoiler, rear diffuser and carbon-fiber trunk spoiler. The chassis has been upgraded with a KW ClubSport coilover suspension, brakes from CarboTech, BBS alloys and an Eisenmann exhaust system with quad 102mm tips.

G-Power's 100th M5 Hurricane was dubbed the M5 Hurricane RR. The baby blue Bimmer runs on a V10 complete with a BI-Kompressor system and two ASA T1-313 superchargers. The finished product puts out a scintillating 830 hp and 575 lb-ft of torque, resulting in a 0-62 time of 4.3 seconds and a top speed of 231 mph, making this one of the fastest sedans on the planet. It rides on a set of 20-inch G-Power Silverstone Diamond wheels housing high-performance brakes (or optional, but highly recommended, carbon ceramics).
