Without question, one of the biggest things holding EVs back right now is a lack of charging options. Sure, Tesla has its Supercharger network, but the rest of the world is beginning to lag behind. Now, brands are putting more and more into their own charging solutions. Volvo just announced a partnership with Starbucks and Chargepoint to increase its charging network. Now, Toyota is also partnering with Chargepoint.

The move comes in preparation for the launch of the new Toyota bZ4X later this year. Not only will Toyota customers have access to Chargepoint units in public places, like the one that's always being used at the Target near your house, but the brand will also install chargers in buyers' homes.

Christopher Yang, VP of EV Charging Solutions at Toyota said: "We want to instill a feeling of confidence in our bZ4X customers by providing a variety of charging options both at home and away." For those that are lucky enough to have somewhere to put that at-home charger, Chargepoint will offer a Level 2 unit. Those can be purchased directly from a Toyota dealership or from Chargepoint themselves online. It'll come with a huge 23-foot charging cable and will be able to charge your RAV4 Prime around nine times faster than a standard outlet.

To put that in real numbers, owners will be able to restore bZ4X's 71 kW/h battery at a pace of 25 miles of range per hour. Of course, that's more than enough to be able to fully charge the battery when plugged in overnight.

For those out of the house, the good news is that Chargepoint's network has been expanding rapidly. Out of the home, Level 3 chargers are also available. Tesla faces increasing competition on all fronts, not just from those EV brands at its price point. With Toyota stepping up its investment into EVs and charging, the brand faces even more pressure. Not to mention the more affordable bZ4X will help bring EVs to the masses. And now, the masses will be able to charge them better than ever.
