The verdict is pretty much unanimous. The Toyota GR Yaris is an absolutely sensational hot hatchback and probably one of the top three vehicles not sold in the United States that we'd choose to come here. Demand is exceeding supply as the combination of that peppy 1.6-liter turbo, manual gearbox, all-wheel drive, and compact size have proved irresistible to many enthusiasts. Well, something even better is on the way from Gazoo Racing in the form of a GR Corolla, expected to come in hatchback form only. Now, thanks to a leaked dealer document posted on Reddit, we know how much power this high-performance Corolla will make.

A dealer representative who attended Toyota North America's dealer conference reported back to their colleagues, and it's this report that was leaked by a user via Reddit. Toyota couldn't have been happy about the leak which is likely why the Reddit user's account and the original post have since been removed, but not before we found out some key information. In the document, we can see that the GR Corolla is expected to produce 300 horsepower, just short of the current Honda Civic Type R. Apparently, a "rally series" version with the rear seat removed to save weight, as well as a manual gearbox, will also be offered. Of course, this is incredibly exciting news.

In the GR Yaris, the 1.6-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine produces 257 hp, and even more in JDM-spec. Of course, the bigger GR Corolla will be heavier, but the extra power should balance things out nicely. Rumors suggest that the GR Corolla will adopt a similar all-wheel-drive system to the GR Yaris, along with lighter body panels. It'll be a rare AWD hatch on the market, and the existing Corolla has nothing approaching this kind of power. The standard Corolla is a good car but does nothing to excite. But with the GR Yaris, Toyota has proven that it can take a humble runabout and turn it into something quite spectacular. The GR Corolla is expected to come to the US in hatchback form for the 2023 model year.
