Toyota's reveal of the FT-86 Open Concept at the Geneva Motor Show was a clear indication the Japanese automaker was close to finalizing a convertible variant of the hugely successful GT86/Scion FR-S sports car. These leaked patent images, showing the car with its soft-top roof up, suggest the car is inching even closer to production .First published by Car and Driver, the images confirm the clean profile of the coupe has been maintained with its multi-layered fabric roof wrapping tightly over the 2+2 cabin.

Though official confirmation is still outstanding, the images confirm that the soft-top GT86 is certain to join the Toyota lineup, with a production version tipped to debut by the end of this year, potentially as soon as November at the Tokyo show. When it hits showrooms next year, expect the GT86 convertible to sit on the same platform as the coupe with its 200-horsepower 2.0-liter boxer four under the hood. Expect it to be offered Stateside as an FR-S roadster, however Subaru has reportedly yet to decide whether a convertible BRZ is worth its while.
