Toyota is Trying (Again) to Make the Camry Cool

Will it ever be possible?

The Toyota Camry is very good at what it does best: a safe, reliable and affordable family sedan. Thing is, that’s not enough these days because customers are being offered something more than just plain vanilla from competing brands like Ford, Honda, and even Hyundai. According to a new report, Toyota President Akio Toyoda has issued a challenge to his company on how to combine striking design without jeopardizing mass-market appeal.

The head of Toyota’s US design studio added that the goal for the next Camry, due in 2015, is a "more emotional, more impactful design. Camry’s taken some hits on styling, but it’s still selling well. But we need to create better design for Camry in the future." The current Camry is definitely more stylish than previous generations, but even one Toyota official stated that "we were probably a little bit too conservative" with the design. It’ll certainly be interesting to see what Toyota designers come up with in the near future.
