Toyota has partnered up with EV Life to use its proprietary "Incentives Engine" to help people find EV tax credits, rebates, and other benefits to claim when purchasing a new battery-electric vehicle (BEV) or plug-in hybrid (PHEV).

It's a smart move as not only does the service cover federal and state incentives but also local municipality breaks and benefits that aren't always well publicized. In fact, it starts getting complicated to navigate what's available and who qualifies, so the tool on Toyota's website is a welcome solution.

"We're excited to collaborate with EV Life to offer Toyota customers a simple tool to navigate the process of finding available incentives on the purchase of a new Toyota BEV or PHEV," said Michael Moore, General Manager of Toyota's vehicle marketing department. "The Toyota EV Incentive Finder tool is simple to use and aids customers in making an informed decision on which vehicle is best for them. Best of all, they can access the tool on Toyota.com via their phone, home computer, or while at a Toyota dealership."

It's something all automakers should be looking into as people spend long enough pouring over details to find the ideal car at the right price in the right place without getting into the complexity of the rules and requirements to qualify for tax credits, rebates, and other incentives. In the press release, Toyota uses the word "deciphering," and it's the perfect word for the process if you want to take advantage of all the breaks.

"Government incentives are not a simple Google search away. They require countless hours of research on complex rules across multiple government websites," explains Kevin Favro, EV Life Co-Founder and Head of Product, "We're excited to empower Toyota customers to generate a personalized list of their maximum incentives in seconds."

The only wrinkle is that the tool is available when you shop for specific Toyota models like the Prius and RAV4 Prime or the new all-electric bZ4X. It's not a general tool, so you must visit the vehicle page and scroll down a bit to get the link.

The estimate is worth reading through and even surprised us with the benefits of going for a RAV4 Prime, although the incentives should be roughly the same on other brands' vehicles around the same price. A lot of it comes down to income and geography.
