It's SEMA time, and that means that there are loads of new builds to discover. Loads of tuners, social media stars, and even manufacturers are showing off what is possible with the right mix of talent, craftsmanship, ingenuity, and the aftermarket creations we'll be exposed to over the next couple of days are sure to leave a lasting impression. Toyota is among those demonstrating the potential of various vehicles and will be showing off two retro Supras. SEMA isn't all about tuning for the sake of going fast though and following on from a Toyota Tacoma camper concept we saw last month, the Japanese automaker is now showing how the rugged pick-up is the ideal overlanding candidate.

On this build, Toyota collaborated with Kurt Williams, the owner and founder of Cruiser Outfitters in Murray, Utah. A Tacoma SR5 was the base of the build that was revealed today in Toyota's Central Hall exhibit in booth 24800. But rather than attacking the build with an unlimited budget, the goal here was to "create a great all-around package that accentuates the Tacoma's ability while keeping it functional and attainable for weekend warriors."

"We chose modest yet approachable modifications to create a really great long-weekend adventure truck that doesn't detract from being an everyday driver," said Williams. "Not everyone can buy, let alone find, a TRD Pro, so we wanted to build on the SR5 platform."

To help the Tacoma Overlanding Concept live up to its name, an Old Man Emu BP-51 adjustable suspension system boasting internal bypass shocks with external reservoirs was fitted, giving the truck a three-inch lift. Old Man Emu also supplied upper control arms for the front with Dakar leaf springs doing duty in the rear. A set of 17-inch Icon Alloy Alpha wheels were wrapped in Goodyear Wrangler DuraTrac rubber, while other off-roading enhancements included an ARB Summit Combo Bar with fog lights while Expedition One supplied rock sliders, an Ultra HD skit plate system, and a dual swing rear bumper system. ARB Intensity Solis front lights and an ARB LED roof rack light help light the trail ahead while Rigid Radiance Scene LED light pods in the rear bumper also help with visibility.

When the going gets tough, the concept can make use of its Warn Zeon 10-S Platinum winch, Maxtrax Recovery Devices, AEP Premium Recovery Kit, Hi-Lift jack, shovel, axe, and ARB Safari 4x4 snorkel intake system. To ensure that you always have room for everything you need, the truck also boasts a Mule Size Mid-Size MAP and Baki Rack System. Under the bed rack, you'll find an ARB Outback Solutions dual drawer setup with a fridge slide holding a 63-quart dual-zone fridge freezer. Finally, the concept is completed by an ARB twin air compressor on a bedside mounting system and a Yakima rooftop tent. If you had any doubts about whether a Tacoma is a great off-road adventure vehicle, this concept will surely lay them to rest.
