Toyota Racing Development (TRD), the Japanese automaker's in-house performance division, will (according to Car and Driver) soon unveil a supercharger kit for the Scion FR-S. So far, TRD has only made relatively modifications available for the FR-S/GT86, such as lowering springs, exhaust and intake, but forced induction could stand to take the nimble little sportscar into more serious performance territory. Subaru, meanwhile, is said to be working on a turbo version of its BRZ that is otherwise identical to the Toyota.

There's no word at this point on how much the TRD supercharger would elevate output in the FR-S from the standard 200 horsepower, but Subaru Technica International (STI) is reportedly targeting 280. Though Subaru and Toyota developed the car together, resulting in twin models under different badges. The forced-induction versions, however, will likely receive different handling and braking upgrades. Just which Japanese automaker's force-fed performance version turns out to be the better one, however, remains to be seen.
