No matter where you go, it's easy to find those types of gearheads that love to hate on anything that Ferrari, Porsche, or Lamborghini makes for one simple reason: those lust machines are nothing but toys for the rich, yet another opportunity to show off using an automobile except without putting in the effort that heroes like Paul Walker did. Built, they say, is better than bought. Provided the build is done at the hands of a master craftsman, they can be right.

But for the most part, as this BMW M5 finds out the hard way, defeat is what's on the horizon for those who think a few tweaks of a wrench will outdo the lifetime of studying and sleepless nights at the office on the part of the engineers. The BMW in question is an F10 M5, one of the first to get downsized and boosted in power.

The owners of this Bimmer managed to raise the 560-hp roof on its 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 to a level beyond thanks to new engine maps courtesy of ESS. Now it has anywhere between 600 to 800 ponies storming out of the crankshaft. Sounds formidable enough right? Well, not so when the opponent in question is a Lamborghini Huracan with a 5.2-liter V10 making 610 all-Italian horsepower resting in its midsection. Even if it's making less, the LP610-4 sends its power to all four wheels versus the BMW's rear contact patches, and it has less weight to lug around. Off the line, things go well for the Lambo, but once both cars are deep into their speedometer ranges, the BMW starts to reel the Italian Stallion in.
