In its 92 years of existence, Pininfarina has created some seriously cool machines, but one of the most interesting was the 1970 Pininfarina Modulo concept built on the bones of a Ferrari 512S. Not only was it an exercise in futuristic exterior design, but the interior had some of the craziest elements we've seen to this day. Fast forward 52 years and the one-off concept is being immortalized in NFT form.

We've covered numerous incidents of manufacturers jumping on the NFT bandwagon, and the latest to do so is Pininfarina, the globally-admired Italian car design firm responsible for stunning cars such as the Bentley Azure and the hyper-EV Pininfarina Batista. The Italian firm will offer a series of exclusive NFTs based on the iconic 1970 Pininfarina Modulo concept car in collaboration with artist Sasha Sirota.

Pininfarina has a long and rich history of delivering forward-thinking automotive designs, and the Modulo concept is one of its most famous and controversial. Pininfarina will offer five unique pieces of art at the next RM Sotheby's auction from 24-26 May which combine influence from various mediums, including technology, design, and music. The art pieces will incorporate never before seen images of the Modulo preserved in Pininfarina's private archive. Owners will gain access to a digital booklet that features previously unseen sketches and two limited-edition physical prints signed by Pininfarina's Chairman, Mr. Paolo Pininfarina. Along with this unique opportunity, Pininfarina will also auction off five unique video-animation NFTs created in collaboration with Sasha Sirota and NFT experts 1of1.

"We enter the NFT world with the intention of exploring its boundaries and opportunities," says Silvio Angori, Pininfarina CEO. "The metaverse is an area we can make a significant contribution to by having been producers of cutting-edge creativity for 90 years. Our immense creative archive, the ability to imagine the future of design using the most advanced technologies open up new avenues for the further economic enhancement of our brand."

Each NFT will feature a unique animation and soundtrack and spans five decades, ranging from the 1970s up to 2020. Buyers will also enjoy an exclusive tour of the Pininfarina Museum and a meet and greet with the Pininfarina design team. Finally, buyers will also receive unique GBL files of the Modulo concept car.

"Pininfarina and the NFT community fit together very well, sharing the values and innovative design, which sit at our core," says Paolo Pininfarina. "We are proud that our first NFT Collection is dedicated to [giving] a new life to the Modulo. The concept car designed in 1970 is a manifesto of Pininfarina vision: beauty and innovation to design the future."

We could understand if a young and hip EV like the Volkswagen ID.4 got its own NFT, but a 70s concept car? We prefer doing things old-school; print out a few posters and we're good.
