Unique 1954 Mercedes 300SL AMG Heads to Auction

Only a handful of these were ever built.

Not many owners of the Mercedes 300SL have been brave enough to unleash AMG on their Gullwing classic. The Sultan of Brunei first came up with the idea, tasking Affalterbach to tune six (yes, six) of his 300SL models. AMG then offered the upgrade to ordinary folk, charging over one million Euros to each of the other five owners of the very unique 300SL AMG. One such model will cross the block at RM Auction’s Monaco sale in May.

The 300SL AMG features the original steel body, but every other part is brand new. AMG fitted its 6.0-liter V8 delivering 380 hp and 430 lb-ft of torque, an upgraded suspension, high-performance brakes and new alloys. Expect a bid of over $1 million to secure this one-off.
