A week before the big S60 reveal Volvo announce top Polestar Engineered variant.
The next-gen Volvo S60 will be fully revealed in only a few days and to keep the anticipation levels high Volvo has released some further information about a range-topping derivative that may offer up to 415 hp. It was recently announced that all Volvo models will be shifting to hybrid and all-electric powerplants in the very near future and this new ‘Polestar Engineered’ model will feature an upgraded version of the existing T8 Twin Engine hybrid system.
Polestar Engineered models will feature a number of performance upgrades and will be developed by Polestar, Volvo’s electric performance division. Other than the software upgrade (standard T8s deliver 400-hp) there will be updates to the front and rear suspension system, Ohlins shock absorbers will be used and the strut bar and adjustable shock absorber design will be the same as that of the Polestar 1 plug-in hybrid performance car. “The new S60 T8 Polestar Engineered is an electrified car that does what you want it to,” said Henrik Green, senior vice president of research and development at Volvo Cars. “All components have been fine-tuned to work together, delivering a responsive and exciting driver’s car.”
Other than the mechanical upgrades Polestar Engineered models will have lightweight alloy wheels and gold-painted brake calipers which will be the hallmark color for these models. So too will the Polestar emblems, black chrome tail pipes and gold-colored seatbelts. The Polestar Engineered treatment will also be made available on the new V60 wagon and XC60 SUV starting from next year.
