Jay Leno checks out a 15,000 lbs. experimental US Army vehicle that's powered by a turbocharged and supercharged diesel.
Jay Leno has the privilege of checking out all kinds of fast and unusual cars that often times aren't available to the rest of the public. And now US Army General Dennis Via comes rolling into Jay’s garage with this: the experimental Fuel Efficient Ground Vehicle Demonstrator (FED) prototype. Constructed from lightweight carbon fiber and aluminum along with plenty of armor grade steel plating and bullet proof glass to keep soldiers protected, the FED weighs a total of 15,000 lbs.
It’s powered by a turbocharged and supercharged Cummins four-cylinder diesel engine that produces 200 horsepower and 568 lb-ft of torque. With a top speed of 75 mph, the four-seat FED has a 30 percent fuel economy improvement over current military vehicles yet only returns 7 mpg.
