And what will likely be taking its place? You guessed it – the Hennessey Venom GT, although this still needs to be officially clarified. The Sunday Times is reporting that the Veyron SS lost the title after it was discovered the car that made the record-setting 267.8 mph run on an episode of Top Gear was not mechanically identical to the version available to customers.

As the car's speed limiter was deactivated, this modification was against the official guidelines. Consequently, the vehicle's record set at 431.072 km/h is no longer valid," stated Guinness World Record PR Director Jaime Strang. Bugatti, as you could guess, is having none of it and stands by its world record.
