Video: 2011 Chevrolet Caprice PPV in Action

The Chevy Caprice PPV has been specially equiped for policemen in the line of duty nationwide. The Caprices are finally entering service around the country and police are pleased with their abilities.

The Chevrolet Caprice PPV (Police Patrol Vehicle) has already been in service in Georgia since May, and is about to enter service in Iowa as well. The cars have gone over so well in Georgia in fact, that the sheriff's office in Cumming plans to replace its current fleet of 175 other patrol cars with the PPV. The more spacious and powerful rear-wheel-drive Caprice boats a 6.0-liter V8 engine with an output of 355hp and 384lb-ft of torque.

The PPV has some impressive performance features, with a best in class top speed and a sub-six second 0-60mph. The larger interior design allows for a full-width prisoner partition, necessary for police work. The specially designed front seats show the attention to detail Chevy put into their new squad cars, as they are sculpted to allow space for gun belts. Another neat feature on the Caprice PPV is GM's StabiliTrak electronic stability control technology with the option of a 'police performance' mode. The mode allows for enhanced stability during high-speed driving giving the officer much tighter and more control of his vehicle.

"The Chevrolet Caprice PPV is our response to what our nation's police officers said they needed to safely and effectively perform their jobs," said Brian Small, general manager of GM's Fleet and Commercial Operations.

Small continued, "In the design process of this vehicle, we polled many of our customers to gain insight. Thus far, the results seem to speak for themselves and prove that customer feedback is critical to meet and exceed expectations." With all these new custom-designed features built specifically to fulfill the needs of the nation's police forces, it's easy to see why the Chevy Caprice PPV will be showing up all around the country.
