David Vs. Goliath.
In this week's edition of This vs That, we see two very different vehicles go head to head down the strip: An AWD Honda Civic that has been boosted to within an inch of its life and a turbocharged Ford F-150 pickup with stealthy looks and killer performance.
We've seen some insane Hondas take down some serious sports cars on this channel before, but does this 900-horsepower hatchback have what it takes to take down a twin-turbocharged V8 truck?
Drag racing is one of the simplest, and some say purest forms of motorsport out there, and Hoonigan's This vs That series embodies all that we love about drag racing: Two wildly different cars, both highly modified, with little traction and a simple hand drop.
The Honda Civic in question is of the EK generation and features a K20 four-cylinder 2.0-liter engine running a massive turbo. Power is sent to all four wheels via a Quaife 5-speed sequential gearbox. According to the owner, the car weighs just 2,550 pounds and produces around 900 hp.
In the opposite corner sits a 2019 Ford F-150 equipped with s a 5.2-liter V8 with two turbochargers strapped to the side. The Ford runs on E85 and features a healthy dose of nitrous but weighs in at a hefty 4,500 lbs. According to the driver, the Ford pickup makes in the region of 1,100 hp and sends its power to the wheels via a ten-speed automatic transmission.
On paper, it sounds like the Honda has this one in the bag, but as we know, anything can happen on this show.
For the first race, both cars line up for a head-to-head race over 1,000 feet.
As the hands drop, the Honda gets a jump and leads the race to the end, with the truck playing catch up. For the second race, everything goes according to plan for the Ford, which easily takes the race. We haven't seen a truck this fast in a long time. On the third run, both cars roll through the start, and the truck again takes the race without breaking a sweat.
Neither car struggled for traction, and with such a glaring weight disadvantage, the Ford clearly just used its raw power to beat the lighter Civic. There's no replacement for displacement, baby.
