The BMW 1-Series has a bit of fun in spite of its 5-door grown-up look.
The first-ever video of the BMW 1-Series drifting and performing some donuts has just surfaced. The 118d (diesel) seen here shows off what German engineering can do in a 5-door hatch. Really, who thought this car could run like this? Apparently somebody did and they're actually quite good at it. But what we're really waiting for is the next-generation 1-Series M Coupe, which will be rebranded the M2. Whatever they call it, we just hope that its power surpasses the current model's 3.0-liter inline six that produces 335hp.
The new 1-Series offers a variety of gasoline and diesel engines, such as a turbocharged 1.6-liter with an output range of 134hp to 247hp. Diesel offerings include a turbocharged 2.0-liter with either 114hp, 141hp, or 181hp. Regardless of which engine is chosen, buyers can choose between a six-speed manual or an eight-speed automatic transmission.
