Just before it makes its official Frankfurt Motor Show debut, Honda has released a short video and some pictures of the ninth generation Honda Civic hatchback undergoing final testing. The upcoming five-door model has been exclusively designed for Europe and like before, will continue to be a separate model from the North American Civic four-door and two-door variants. From what we can tell in the photos and video, Honda has made the car's styling more edgy than the outgoing generation.

The hatchback will also have a heavily revised suspension that will improve the car's ride quality, handling, and overall comfort. No official word yet regarding powertrain details, but some sources have indicated that Honda will introduce a smaller displacement turbo diesel engine in addition to the 2.2-liter i-DTEC.

Honda has also announced the new Civic hatch and CR-V crossover will be built in their Swindon plant in the UK beginning in late 2011. Check out the video for more details directly from Honda development engineers.
