The guys over at Motor Trend never miss out on a chance to have some fun outside of the office. So when the opportunity arrived to take the 2011 Porsche 911 GT2 RS out for a spin, how could anyone pass that up? In this video segment, Motor Trend not only takes the car to an abandoned airfield for a bit of afternoon fun, but they also explain the car's extraordinary engineering technology.

Acknowledging the possible drawbacks of a rear engine design, they further explain how Porsche engineers have devised numerous ways to compensate the balance of power and weight. For example, they've proportionally matched the tire widths to the weight distribution.

As the most powerful 911 ever built, the GT2-RS is powered by a turbocharged 3.6-liter flat six with 620hp and weighs just 3,177 pounds. Basically everything about the 2011 GT2-RS is amazing and with the new generation 911 going on sale very shortly, we can't wait to see what those ever so clever Porsche engineers have in store for the next generation GT2.
