Autoexpress are renowned for their thorough car tests, and having assigned the new BMW M5 a 5-star status they decided to give the super saloon a special test drive by pitting it against BMW's fastest superbike. Racing around Cadwell Park in the rain is never easy on two wheels, especially when the bike has a 193hp 999cc engine that equates to 925hp per ton, a 0-60mph sprint time of 2.9 seconds, and top speed of 190mph; so the S1000RR was given a ten-second head start.

The M5 on the other hand is powered by a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8, producing 552hp and a 0-60mph time of 4.4 seconds. It's also far easier to chuck around in the wet. Check out the video to see which is fastest; it's a lot closer than you may think.
