Vin Diesel Will Drive 2,000-HP Electric Dodge Charger In Fast 9

Muscle Cars / Comments

This will be the first time an electric car has starred in a Fast & Furious film.

Like it or loathe it, the future of the muscle car is electric. Dodge is giving its beloved V8 a send-off with the upcoming 2022 Charger SRT Ghoul before the automaker is forced to embrace electrification. But rather than go down the hybrid route, Dodge is building the first-ever all-electric Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat to unleash the muscle car's full performance potential.

Dubbed the eCharger, the electric muscle car is still at an early stage of development, and while we'll miss the thunderous sound of the Charger's roaring V8, the preliminary performance specifications are astonishing.

Powering this beast will be a quad-electric motor setup generating a colossal 2,000 horsepower and a tire-shredding 1,500 lb-ft of torque, putting the eCharger in the same league as electric supercars like the Rimac C_Two, Lotus Evija, and Pininfarina Battista.

Thanks to its instant torque, the all-electric Charger will accelerate from 0-60 mph in just 1.5 seconds, a significant improvement over the combustion-powered Charger SRT Hellcat, and top out at 220 mph. Dodge hasn't released any teasers previewing the design yet, but the eCharger will have a closed-off grille and retain the current car's widebody design. Special badging and colored accents will also distinguish it from the regular Charger SRT Hellcat.

We won't have to wait too long to see it in action, either. The eCharger will make its world debut this year in Fast & Furious 9, where it will replace Vin Diesel's signature 1970 Dodge Charger to reflect current times. This will be the first time an electric car has played a major role in the Fast & Furious franchise.

To showcase the eCharger's colossal performance, we'll no doubt see it take part in drag races against combustion-powered muscle cars and sports cars in the film. Unless there are any further delays, Fast & Furious 9 is racing into theaters on June 25, 2021. After it debuts in Fast & Furious 9, the Dodge eCharger SRT Hellcat will arrive in dealerships on April 1, 2022.
