As it launches more electric vehicles aimed at a younger, more eco-conscious buyer, Volkswagen needs to experiment with new methods to reach this audience. VW recently showed off some cool prototypes of the ID.Buzz that tied in with the new Obi-Wan Kenobi show in Disney+, and now the Germany automaker will try out a newer platform for its messaging on all-electric cars and sustainability... TikTok.

That's right, VW will create a TikTok channel called "New Auto," which focuses on explaining the company's historic shift towards electrification and mobility.

"We are experiencing the biggest transformation in the history of the car. That means new business areas and disruption. To promote trust in New Auto, we also want to reach the digital, environmentally-conscious Generation Z. Instead of saying: strategy is too complex for a platform like TikTok, we are simply going ahead and trying it out - with infotainment," explains Michael Manske, Head of CEO & Digital Communications at the Volkswagen Group.

This is the first time the VW Group has participated in TikTok, though the company is far from the first automaker to delve into the platform. So what exactly does VW plan to show on its channel? Life hacks? Maybe some dance trends? VW says it plans to discuss "topics such as decarbonization, circular economy, battery and charging, car software or autonomous driving." These are pretty interesting to car nuts like us, but VW will have to spice them up to interest the broader TikTok audience.

Over one billion people worldwide click on the TikTok app each month, meaning there is a vast audience for VW to capture here. In fact, a global study of users shows that 77 percent car lovers on the platform are extremely tech savvy and interested in learning about new technology. Since CarBuzz has been posting on TikTok for over two years, we are interested to see what VW comes up with.
