The 24-hour race at Nurburgring is set to take place this coming weekend and Volkswagen has been preparing for the challenge. The VW Golf24 is a 2.5-liter five-cylinder turbocharged engine that gives a ferocious output of 450hp mated to its sequential six-speed gearbox with paddle shifters. VW will bring three Golf24's to the event. The drivers include Johnny Herbert and Mark Blundell, both ex-F1 veterans.

Other drivers will feature Nordschleife veterans Patrick Simon and Peter Terting. VW will also send drivers Rene Rast and DTM rookie Edoardo Mortara to represent their brand. In addition to the Golfs, two other factory 330hp Scirocco GT24-CNG versions will be participating in the race. The Nurburgring 24 Hours will take place from June 25-26.
