Volkswagen is celebrating a massive milestone, announcing that it has officially delivered 500,000 ID. models across the globe. While that pales in comparison with Tesla's numbers - the Fremont factory recently reached the two million milestone- the German automaker has only recently thrown its weight behind the EV movement.

"Delivery of half a million ID.s confirms that the Volkswagen models are being well-received by our customers - all over the world, explains VW's Imelda Labbe, member of the Board of Management for Marketing, Sales and After-Sales at Volkswagen Passenger Cars. "Our focus is unchanged - we want to make Volkswagen the most desirable brand for sustainable mobility."

Earlier this year, VW executives commented that the e-mobility side of the business would soon be as profitable as ICE-powered vehicles.

If the company wants to maintain this growth, it must introduce more electric models, particularly in the USA, where the ID.4 remains the sole option.

Ten new electric models are expected to arrive by 2026. While we don't expect the entry-level Volkswagen ID to hit our shores, both the ID.Buzz and the elegant ID. Aero are expected to hit the American market in the coming years.

"Volkswagen will have the broadest portfolio of electric vehicles in the automotive industry: From the entry-level e-car with a target price of under €25,000 to the new flagship Aero B, we will have the right offer in every segment," added Labbe.

By 2030, VW hopes electric vehicles will account for more than 50% of sales in America and China. The brand hopes EVs will make up "at least 70%" of Volkswagen's sales in Europe. In Norway, a leader in electric vehicle adoption, the ID.4 dominates EV registrations and recently topped the October sales chart.

If the order bank is anything to go by, VW may soon reach another ID. milestone.

"We are doing our utmost to deliver the roughly 135,000 ID.s on order to our customers as quickly as possible. However, due to the persistently strained situation as regards the supply of parts, we are repeatedly having to adjust production," said Labbe.

The German automaker is pulling no punches when it comes to ruling the electric vehicle roost. According to industry experts, Volkswagen is poised to overtake Tesla as the premier EV brand. The company aims to offer customers a wide range of vehicles, with prices to suit everyone's pocket.

Part of VW's success can be traced back to its customer responses. The automaker listens to the wants and needs of its clients and even implements feedback as new features via over-the-air updates.

"Our experience with this in recent months has been very positive," notes Labbe. "The benefit is that we can transform customer feedback directly and swiftly into new functions, such as increased charging capacity or a battery capacity notification, in the driver display."
