Volkswagen Is Serious About Zero Emissions

A new patent reveals just how serious

Volkswagen is doing its best to make Dieselgate a distant memory, but legal proceedings aren't over by a long shot. Still, if you don't try, nothing gets better. To this end, Volkswagen redesigned its logo to show its focus on electric cars, but that isn't where things stop. Volkswagen wants us to truly and fully trust the company again. It wants us to think of the marque as focused on sustainability, Thus, a new patent has been filed to trademark a new slogan: Way to Zero.

A number of new electric models are on their way, including the Volkswagen ID.4, and some other very sexy electric metal. While we doubt that the automaker will ever lose its ties to the "People's Cars" tagline, the carmaker needs a way to let everyone know that electric cars are its main focus with the aid of a single slogan.

Sure, the new ID range of electric cars is creating a Buzz - see what we did there? - but sometimes it's the end of a commercial, the bit where you see the company's logo and its slogan that really sticks in your mind.

We have to say, the brand seems to be taking its social responsibilities seriously and looks focused on an all-electric future. But we are car people. We read about what's new in the motoring industry on this site every day. We have our fingers on the pulse - the general public does not. The general public remembers scandals. Hell, even Toyota still has a tinge of recall culture to it. Volkswagen needs to do this and much more if it ever wants true forgiveness, but every step matters. Here's hoping that the new slogan really is more than just a catchy line dreamed up by Hans in marketing.
