The Volkswagen New Beetle will be redesigned and made-over with more room, better fuel economy and new body-style choices. This is the first overhaul for the compact car since its debut a decade ago, but it is becoming clear that it will debut at this year's Los Angeles Auto Show. The New Beetle will trade in the model's retro styling for a modern "metro" look that maintains Bug identity without "chick-car" cuteness.

According AutoWeek, the new Beetle will utilize Volkswagen's 2.5-liter five-cylinder and 2.0 liter four-cylinder gasoline engines, along with a 1.4-liter gasoline-electric hybrid setup. The new Beetle is also being developed on the same platform as the upcoming Jetta, giving it larger proportions and improved dynamics. The 2005 Ragster concept with sharper roofline will reportedly influence the design of the new model.
